We were going to record the production reports on video, as it is a tool that we will be using extensively from now on. But unfortunately, due to a flu that insists on not abandoning me, it was not possible. So this first one goes in text.<\/p>\n

The idea of these reports is to show you the process of creating the game Midgard: The Card Game. As the game will be put on crowdfunding, we think it's fair to bring you all the possible details of its production, so that you are interested and can invest when the funding is in the air. So let's go!<\/p>\n

Well, Midgard started to be developed in 2012. The product is another element of the line Vikings: Warriors of the North<\/a>, which includes the RPG books and the book Norse Tales<\/a>. The line is an editorial success of Conclave, it was praised by the critics and the public (with out-of-print books) and, like any successful product, it has to expand its tentacles to other aspects\u2026 North! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

The first version of Midgard was based on a traditional card game that aims to form sets of cards. We don't know the name of the game, as the only identification we had for it was the name of an old electronics factory: Telefunken (!). The game consisted only in the formation of sets of cards with the objective of playing trips, quads, corners and sines and emptying the hand. Whoever ended up with the fewest cards in their hands each round, won the game. Obviously this version of the game did not have a board, and was played only with cards. There were some special cards, which gave a different dynamic to the game and differentiated Midgard from the original deck game. The current game has nothing to do with it! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Of course, this first version was just the kick-off for the game's production and the first mechanics study. The main objective was to try to establish a criterion for the amount of cards in the game and the way these cards would be divided. From there, A LOT, but a LOT of things have changed and the game is currently in the final stage of playtests. We will talk more about this in the next report.<\/p>\n
